they want to belong
A nuclear war that occurred in 2033 wiped out a huge portion of the earth's population and it took until about 2050 to even begin re-establishing society, and around 2110 until various pockets, or "domes" began to really thrive. Many domes are different, although they would never know it about one another. Cyro's dome is one of the most advanced, though that advancement came at a price: people's humanity. Freedom traded away for "peace".
He is one of the five original genetically lab-created humans held hostage by their maker and put to work under strong supervision in a nauseatingly organized and clean totalitarian post-nuclear future where rules, purpose, and obedience reign supreme and science is the religious excuse for violence and tyranny.
Cyro is a surgeon specializing in bio-mechatronics by day and "clean up" by night. Synthesized to be cool-headed, rational, logical, and action-oriented with excellent bedside manners, high levels of agreeability, and perhaps most importantly: complete obedience. Think fast, act fast, stay calm and be personable. For the most part, that is what he is. Sometimes a little cheeky and known for sarcasm so dry its hard to tell he wasn't serious. Cyro is also equipped with excelled strength, speed, stamina and endurance unknown to the general public. Perfect to be a secret weapon. He is, unfortunately for his makers, a lot more self-aware than they would like.
Cyro, the most stable of the five, secretly plans to overthrow and revolt against their regime while battling his own deterioration and hoping to help break his siblings free from Negus' grasp before they also deteriorate. While his story may seem heroic, he comes from a world and a story where there are no heroes. Everyone is horrible in their own right whether for the sake of "good" or "bad", whatever those things mean. While he IS the most stable, Cyro does still suffer the same deterioration as his brothers. He has already lost and since augmented his eyesight and vocal cords. He has also begun suffering from mood instability and is currently medicated for this.
and see the fading of truth by the growing of lies
Cyro's world is a dystopian future rife with totalitarian world views; a commentary on what could happen if the worst of us prevailed in search of power, progression, and "perfection". His world is cruel, oppressive and inhuman while it masks itself as clean, righteous, and thriving. Many people buy into it. Violence is non-existent, crime non-existent (except for the crime that Negus commits).
The world on the outside of the dome is chaos, but within a different type of horror arose. People have long since accepted this new way of life. Everything is clean, orderly, and perfectly symmetrical. The world is bright and spotless. White concrete and clean crisp colors. Everyone walks in an orderly fashion. Wears the same uniforms. Most people even wear their hair in the same fashion. The entertainment district is the only exception given it is the place by law people are allowed to "let loose". As a whole, individualism is discouraged. There is a shared duty to maintain and grow the population and prosperity of the dome.
Cyro's world heavily focuses on the control of people for peace, especially the control of their bodies and choices. The Original Five are known to the public as the first successful cases of fully engineered and lab-grown humans. These humans were touted as completely customizable ranging from appearance to hobbies, skills, and personality.
These people, often considered more product than person, are under constant surveillance and undergo routine tests to evaluate their stability and success as they age. With this technology (a much higher cost than artificial insemination, of course), their race will achieve a new level of perfection. Perhaps soon they will not need to eat, they will be capable of surviving the outer world, there will be no desire for violence or crime, no flaw, no imperfection, and those with wombs will no longer go through the pain of birthing a child.
It is the future.
It is, unknown to the public, also a weapon. Created with enhanced speed, strength, and reflexes. The ulterior motive of the Original Five was to seek and execute mutated people and the slow incline of meta-humans outside the dome walls. However, also unknown to the public, the Original Five are flawed. Each suffers a unique decay of their mental wellness and physicality.
